Wemos D1 R2 power

Hi! this is my first post in the community and i would like some help with my capstone project.

i am making a mobile light trap with LED's and a wemos module. my main power supply would be a 12v motorcycle battery, i've tested the LED's and they're working fine, But i'm not sure of what i'll use for the wemos board if i'll connect it to the same power source. is there any difference regarding performance if i'll use a power adaptor compared to the micro usb (let's say wi-fi connectivity range), and how can i connect my wemos to the 12v power source, can i use a 12v to 5v usb car regulator (like this one: https://goo.gl/xetDpn), or any recommendations for a buck regulator? thank you!

Power jack, 9-24V power input.

Thanks for the reply, it seems like i can't connect it to my 12v power supply. Do i need like a regulator or something?

why can't you connect it to your 12v power supply?

I run my arduino's in my campervan on simple adjustable buckconverters. Make sure you take one providing enough amperage.

Hi, can you show me (or link) the regulators you're using? It steps down the voltage right? Thanks!

Well if you can connect a step down regulator then you can connect a barreljack like Juraj suggested. The board has a onboard voltregulator.

pick one that firs your powerneeds. With these things i use them only on half the powerating. So if it says 3A i make sure i never use more than half of that.

you have a regulator on board. you can supply 12 V to it (the spec has 9 to 24 V). what is unclear on it?

Oh, i didnt know about the on board regulator, so basically i can plug a power jack directly from the 12v power source without frying my board?

yes, if your board is really D1 R2 an Uno like board with esp8266 as MCU
