Wemos R1 ESP32 not recognised in Linux

I've been using Linux and IDE 2.3.4 since it came out with no big issues.

But when I try to attach a new Wemos R1 ESP32 board is does not show up under Tools, all I see is greyed out:
Port "/dev/ttyUSB0"

The board worls fine under Windows, and I have installed ESP32 in boards manager, and I've used another ESP32 in Linux just fine.

Any clues?

There are a couple of problems with your post, a Wemos is an 8266 not an esp32.
If you use the Ver 2.3.4 board selector you might have better luck. Here is a screen grab of what I see, there is NO match for Wemos R1 (the esp32 is total nonsense)

Well, dont take me wrong, but there's a couple of problems with your post  :

Its definiitely the Wemos D1 R32 (ESP32) Development Board

Also I do have it working in Windows and my other ESP32 (Sparkfun) and the Wemos both work fine when I use "ESP32 Dev Module" as the board in Windows, and the Sparkfun works fine in Linux too.

I suspect I need to install an RS232 driver, or similar

FWIW following my Ubuntu Linx upgrade from 24.04.5 LTS to 24.10 ths problem has dissappeared.
