I have one of the LCDs with only 4 characters 8888, I wired it up and only the bottom part shows up, can one of you see whats wrong with my wiring? Pictures in the attachments

Whow! besides the terrible photo you took.
you connect it wrong.
its not like i put some jumpers on the bottom row.
and some resistors on the top row of the 7digit display.
look at this diagram and try again. Link
your 7digit can have a other pin layout!
but as you can see the connections arent that simple!
I literally got this board yesterday, Please do not take me as an expert, but I will try againwith the diagram listed.

have you every programmed before ?
how good is your electronical background with wires, MOSFETS, resistors, LED's and such ?

No they are not LCD ( Liquid Crystal Displays ) they are seven segment LED ( Light Emitting Diode ) displays.
Using the right words makes everyone's life a lot easier.

Hopefully the place you got the device has some information about it. If they link to the manufacturer, then go to that site and look for a document with technical information about the device. (That document is called a "datasheet".) If you don't have a link to the manufacturer, look on the device and google any numbers or words you find on it. You may get lucky.
