What Arduino lacks today

This is solely my humble opinion:

Arduino lacks a entry level, really cheap, board powered with some ARM 32bit micro.
I'm pretty sure it will bring a horde of people interested in starting with ARM.
Yes we have Due, or Zero, but not in the Uno/328 price range e.g. And this is perfectly possible with many ARM32 options out there.

Saying this thing because I'm in this position. Want to taste ARM but cant find anything "interesting" in the Arduino world, and personal salt: In my opinion nobody really knows what's going to happen with the AVR line. Well, guys there entered in a type of obscure mode, also their site is > one week in "maintenance" mode, e.g. So, why not make some variation among other vendors? Yeah I know is not that simple...

Hey I don't want to fight or anything. Not sure if I'm going even to participate in this post anymore. Just a suggestion I leave here, maybe is a good one.

Salute!

MKR1000
101
TEENSY

3rd party boards getting more and more support.
Others in the pipeline It really is that simple.

Hey there Ballscrewbob!

But my point is:

Teensy -> is not Arduino Project. My suggestion is really something to be included in the Arduino Project (it's the purpose of this forum).

MKR1000 -> Not cheap in comparison
101 -> Also not cheap in comparison

Yes. But there's an aspect with the ARM (and now, I hate this term) "ecosystem": Community follows ARM reality: Extremely varied, scattered, fuzzy. Supporting a option inside official Arduino Project will make community concentrate around it, making it effective, prolific in terms of support and development. It's the main aspect of my suggestion. (also entry level, cheap, accessible).

Teensy is for sale in the ard shop...

And the 101 and MKR are pretty well supported here therefore ARM is getting through.

Do agree with a centric approach to the ARM subsystem though.
You look at the ESP's and Arduino was not only late to that party but missed it altogether unless you count .ORG and even they were pretty late into the game.

I like the idea of the ESLOV project too.

Been on the backside of testing for CREATE and if what I have seen there is anything to go by its full steam ahead with some fantastic people in the background.

All things aside I think the legal fiasco took a toll and its going to take a little time to recover and build momentum again. The bulwark of the AVR wont last forever and like you I see things moving to better platforms.

Arduino101 is not an ARM. I'd say that both 101 and MKR are in a similar price range to Uno. Under $40, anyway (and they both include BTLE communications.)

Yeah, you would think that with smaller ARM chips selling for about the same price as an ATmega328, you might see an ARM board like Uno at the same price as Uno. I guess that would be nice - I'm not sure that anyone would buy one, given the large number of "other" manufacturers selling more powerful ARM-based boards at lower prices (TI Launchpad, ST Nucleo, Freescale/NXP Freedom, Cypress Pioneer, Teensy, Micro:bit, Silicon Labs...)
