Interested in wireless board to communicate with desktop. Wireless board will control multiple components. Desktop would be used to monitor device.
Bluetooth wireless adapters seem to be easy and inexpensive, but may not have a long range.
I like the Pololu Wixel (2.4 GHz, range about 50 feet indoors). It is not Arduino compatible but is programmed in C and is very well documented, with many examples. http://www.pololu.com/product/1339
If you want Arduino compatibility you might consider the “Blend Micro”, an ATmega328 and Bluetooth on a single board http://redbearlab.com/blendmicro/ However, from the website it appears to be very poorly documented.
