Hi, as you can see I'm totally new on this, I would like to know what kind of (connector?) (jumper?) do I need to connect a switch or any other component to female connector in the board.
Thanks in advance.

For most un-stranded wires and component leads you can just shove them into the female headers.
For a more permanent and reliable solution, get male headers. They come in long strips (typically 40 pins per strip) you can snap apart to any length you like. Solder your wires to the male header pins and plug them into the female headers.
If you are making a lot of connections you should fill all the female headers with male pins, solder to the pins, and glop on some hot-melt glue.
If you put some sticks (like BBQ skewers) across the board and glue the male headers to them it will act like a 'shield' and align all the pins so you can plug everything in at once.
Thank you John, got another question, do these boards take power directly from the USB port or will I need an external source?

They can take power from USB.
(Up to the USB limit of 500mA...)
Thank you
