What happened to AWOL and his alter ego?

Just curious what happened with AWOL and his alter ego? He hasn't been active for a while and a check of posts seems to indicate that all his posts/replies have disappeared. His stickies are now also owned by "system".

So goodbye @AWOL.

I don’t like topics like this, we have lost way too many good contributors.

That would be a serious forum bug. Are you certain that material hasn't been taken over by system?

I don't know what happened to the alter ego.

The alter-alter ego still exists. He asked for it to be deleted but the moderators don't have that power. Instead it was silenced / suspended.

He burned out.

...with a huge grateful thank you. He truly fought the good fight to make this place what it is.

The "alter ego" account has been anonymized. The visible symptom you will see of anonymization is the user name (including "@" mentions) is changed to the format "anon<random number>".

I see the anonymization was done by the "system" user, which I believe happens automatically when a forum user deletes their arduino.cc account (different from but connected to the forum.arduino.cc account).

I won't share the new user name, since that would be contrary to the spirit of anonymization, but you'll surely be able to determine it for such a prolific contributor.

The posts owned by the "system" user are those from AWOL. It has been this way for years, so that is unrelated to the recent change of status of the "alter ego" account.

Yes, thanks for the huge contributions AWOL et al made to this forum through years of devoted moderation, sharing of knowledge, and providing support to the forum community.

So long then and thanks to him. Hope all is OK and he is happily refocusing on something else

My thanks as well and all the best!

He (oh well, like me as well and maybe others) spends/spent far too much time here. I guess that he just needed to kick the habit in a decisive way.
Of course some other users also have an active posting history which abruptly ends without any indication that this was a deliberate action, say here @robtillaart and one could begin to fear the worst.

Even if not active on the forum, Rob Tillaart is still very much active in contributing to the Arduino project in other ways. For example:

Oh, that is a relief. And it is the same guy. I found this post where his Arduino persona links to content made by his Github persona: Combine INT integer and INT decimal into decimal - #7 by robtillaart
