What is happening with Android Open Accessory?

I am an experienced engineer new to Arduino. I would like to eventually develop some useful products based on Arduino. I saw quite a few books on Android Open Accessory and related Arduino projects around 2011-2013 but seems to have died down in recent years. Is this impression correct? If so, why?

Are you sure this Android project is related to Arduino?

Android Open Accessory (AOA) support allows external USB hardware (Android USB accessories) to interact with Android-powered devices in accessory mode.

As they specified Android USB Accessories. So I dont know whether it can support Arduino, as Arduino is not based on Android.

Thank you for the replies. I guess that explains the lack of traction, i.e. there is no tight link up between the two.
