What is StackExchange?

I am new to this forum and still getting to know my way around. Asked a question yesterday about max pin and board current limits on the Uno and Mega 2560 boards, and had a nice discussion about it. Could not find it today, and when I did using Chromes history, I find it was a forum called StackExchange. Is this a different forum or part of this one?

Hi,
Is this it, towards the end of the thread?

A different forum.

Tom.. :+1: :coffee: :australia:

Thanks, clear now.

Yes that is it.

if you go to the top right part of the page, you find your avatar icon image
if you click on it you'll see a pull down menu, something like this (may be without the (1) which is a notification I've a pending answer

click on the last icon, the user symbol and you'll see a menu related to you and your activity

Selecting Activity will bring you to a page where you can see all your previous posts

I guess this is your Stack Exchange post: current - What is the max output rating of the pins on the Arduino Mega? - Arduino Stack Exchange

The forum software here is related to that of Arduino Stack Exchange and some of the posters appear on both platforms, that is both here and on Stack Exchange.

The concept is a bit different, however. Stack Exchange tends build a searchable question and answer database and the site is more or less a side effect of that goal. Here, the objective is to support and promote the Arduino ecosystem.

I'm new to this forum but i am not new to I.T. and Electronics.
been doing electronics since the 70s and been and I.T. Engineer for forever.

Regarding Stack Exchange
Basically it's a Peer to Peer informational platform, i have spent a lot of time there helping people over the years.

  1. Is stack (as we call it) the same or related to this forum ?
No it's not, not in the slightest

  2. I understand the correlation though. you are here out of a need to satisfy a technical
question, you likely googled it and got results on Stack and on this Arduino forum.
That's because both forums have a technical community to them

  3. the next thing you should know is Stack exchange is a network that has various communities
    Technology, Culture, Art, Science, Business.
there's a whole tonne of stuff there although like you i spend most of my time on the computing and technology side of it (but be aware its' bigger than you realize)

  4. I suppose this website and forum is dedicated to Arduino based projects.

both sites however have specialized people (like myself for one) that can help you and then you have your hobbyist's and newbies that want to learn

so... that's stack Exchange
SUMMARY
it's not related to this site in any way
it has (of many of it's communities) a Technology community
it's a forum where you can participate, learn and get answers to your technical questions

On a personal note (and from my experience)
People on stack can come across as a bit more arrogant or forward to newbies.
Don't judge them on it as dealing with electronics after a while can turn your brain into a computer after which you partially lose the ability to understand emotions again .
There is good intent but understanding is required.

that's what Stack Exchange is.
From your perspective you can use both stack and here to find solutions.

There is this really interesting presentation on "The Cultural Anthropology of Stack Exchange":
