I am going to guess yes. If the axes are motorized then it will need motors. Of course for non-motorized axes you wouldn't have motors.

You will also need some kind of feedback from the axes in order to know how to move the motors.

Your question lacks any context. As such it makes no sense. What is a

mean to you?

Do you have a link to some product you want to know about?

Do you have some project you are working on and need help?

If you are a PhD student, then you should be capable of writing a little more context with your question and maybe make it sound a little more professional.

For example, it is about 30% less capable than the 3 axis 5G combobulator. However the 2-axis has less downsides, and also costs much less. (/snark)
