What kind of power supply for 3 meter rgb led strip

Hello,

I would make a project with a addresseable RGB ledstrip on 5 volt 5050 2812 with 180 leds on 3 meter. What kind of power supply must i use for that project. Normally they say one single led needs 60 mA so if i count i need more than 10 ampere what is huge if you ask me. Is that correct?
Thanks in advance...

60 mA is a lot for an LED, even if R and G and B are fully on simultaneously. Can you supply a link to the datasheet?

The problem is the low voltage. 5V x 10.8A is just 54W. Not a lot to light a room with an old-style light bulb.

That’s why we use higher voltages to transmit power.

But plenty with modern LEDs.

Gotta love 'em! :grinning:

60mA per LED or pixel.

Yes, let’s see a link to your LED strip.
