What kind of waterproof boxes / case / thing can I buy?

Railroader:
I know some plastic boxes with a transparent top using and anti water/dust "thing" between them. IP class is unknown now. I use them for Arduino stuff exposed to dust but they are surely good regarding resisting water. On demand I can ask for more info. I buy them in Sweden but they are imported, I'm sure.

Amazon just doesnt seem to have much selection. But i even looked at adafruit and the ine they sell for arduino doesnt have screw spots that line up. I suppose thats not a big deal. But ill have to have foam behind the rfid reader to hold it against the case.

I guess the connectors you just drill a hole in the case for. Shrugs

Yes, I have drilled a hole and mounted a chassi contact for my external temperature sensor. The hole for the USB connector would be more difficult to tightend. Some melted glue applied from the inside side would probably work. Making a shassi connector water tight to the box can't be that difficult. I Think I can dig up the manufactorer or foreign sailes office. My seller has no home page showing all his items…...

What about using that kind of drying stuff, contained in bags, used for some pills and other stuff? Changing such a bag once or a twice per year…...

i put one of those in the box with some metal dies once. turned out it was salt. facepalm.... thankfully it didn't rust on any internal parts.

Locking at plenty of devices used outdoors for checking in, opening doors etc. they are always protected by some protection preventing the unit from direct hits from rain. That is a good start I think. No idea to build a box that would do better then a deep diving submarine.

Check out www.polycase.com for boxes with clear covers, waterproof, water resistant, glands for running cables thru the sides, etc.
