i new to arduino and electronic and i need your advices for my project. I want to control with an arduino UNO/mega the speed and direction of two DC brushed motors 380 size/class (like groupner speed400). One single motor requires 12A.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Is 12 amps the running or stall current? If the former, you need to find out the latter to know how to size the controller; if the latter, then you look for a controller that can handle at least 12 amps. Let's say its the latter; in that case, here is a possible option:
Read all the notes on the motor driver or chip you select; in the case of the above, they did some thermal testing to see when the overcurrent/temperature protection kicked in. Ultimately, if you want the best performance from the device you use, you'll want to use a heatsink (that, or get a vastly over-rated motor driver for the motor in question; Pololu sells a 30A capable driver that is more expensive, but you could probably run these motors off it without needing a heatsink).
