What rf chip to choose?

Im new to RF development and want to start learning about it.
But i don't know which RF chip to choose? In the 868Mhz range (Europe).
What would you consider as the most proffesional chip?

What range? How much data? How often? Uni-directional or bi-directional? How important is data integrity? Data loss? How much error handling do you want to implement vs how much the radio should handle automatically?

Do either of them have a (good) track record of being used with the Arduino?
