Hello,

I am looking at starting a new project. I want to count coins using a sensor when they slowly roll by. What kind of sensor do I need to detect coins? My design would have the sensor about 1 cm away from the coin. Can you please provide me with some links.

To count coins rolling by, you can use a beam break sensor.

To distinguish coins from other objects is more difficult. What do you actually want to do?

Depending on the size of the coin it will roll into a specific area. The specific area will contain a sensor to count the coin.

Could I use a Optical Detector / Photo Transistor since the sensor can be in close proximity.
