I was just looking up the page on SPI for a question and came across this, on this link SPI

Controller/peripheral is formerly known as master/slave. Arduino no longer supports the use of this terminology. See the table below to understand the new terminology:
Naaahh. They're just trolling for Neanderthals. Seriously, do you think they'll expose any? It's about as obvious as it can get. Oh, wait a minute. It works!
With hardware manufacturers like Sparkfun and Adafruit, and the Open Source Hardware Association adopting the SDO/SDI and PICO/POCI labels, the effort gets a jump start.
I figure it this way, whatever trips their trigger. If I Google Gender Bender I see definitions I never dreamed up a few decades ago but a Google of Gender Bender Connectors I see the definitions I have known for years. Then who could not recall the General Radio GR connectors, Type 874? Hermaphroditic connector, so there were no "male" or "female" connectors; any GR connector could mate with any other GR connector. It was apparently well ahead of its time. Go figure.
While at my time in life I seldom find anything offensive to myself and if I did I would simply choose to ignore it I guess now I must be considerate of the feelings of others and what others may find offensive. Failing to do that I will need sensitivity training. I give up.
SPI was introduced by Motorola in the "Dark Ages", it is still the same with a few minor enhancements. Who is going to change all the data etc that has been published for decades?
So are we going to have to change master / slave flip flops?
And mechanical engineering, what is going to happen to the bastard file or the grease nipple?
There were black slave owners you know, are they the good guys or the bad ones?
The big problem is that there are so many people ready to take offence on behalf of other people.
And when I am in land fill, I will stop using the term.
It is a great pity that I will not live to see the time the current woke brigade being castigated in the future for their use of very offensive language, because it will come.
I am of the opinion that words themselves are not inherently good or bad, but that it is the intent behind the words what matters. Therefore I do not think that banning words from a context where they do not have the purpose of causing offence will make the world a better place, we are merely narrowing our vocabulary.
