What to use? IFTTT? MQTT?

I have some Adafruit feather Huzzah Esp8266. I wish to connect a motion/light sensor to one of these which when it’s dark will then trigger another ESP8266 connected to light via relay.

I have watched lots of YouTube videos and my head is about to explode!

I haven’t got the any sensors/relays yet, I am just playing around with lighting the onboard leds on the ESP8266s. I have tasmoto flashed on both boards and figured how to control each with Alexa. But how go about getting one to tell the other?? IFTTT? If so how, or MQTT? If so how.

I may sound like a complete noob but I’m a quick learner.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

You might consider a sensor that will only work when its dark. You might find they all do that, as this problem was resolved c1954 - no ESP8266 required.

"But how go about getting one to tell the other?? "

Operate one ESP as a client to send commands and another to act as a server to receive the commands and act on them.
