Its just a basic 8-bit gaming platform. Similar to the old Atari and NES systems but you can program your own games for it. Its mainly designed for programing. You may be able to hack it and interface with the arduino.
This system has allot more to it then the arduino which is why it can handle video output and 2 controllers. With enough additional hardware you could do the same with an arduino.
There already is an "Arduino" console (ok, AVR) - its called the Uzebox:

Personally, I like Lady Ada's design - but Sparkfun's seems more open to other uses besides a gaming console.
I would say that is what happens when you put the MEGA on steroids... VGA, Composite, Built in freq select, Loads of IO, Multithreading?? all good things that come about when you begin to add MORE POWER.
