Where are library files stored?

I am using an iMac, running OSX 10.6.8 as administrator. I have downloaded an extra library but cannot figure where it should go. I have searched for library files but cannot find them. Although the Arduino software lists several libraries, I searched, for instance, for "EEPROM.h" but nothing shows up except in texts like Arduino Learning". Do I have to download these libraries? If so, where do I find them?

Inside the Arduino folder inside the Documents folder, of your home directory.

e.g.: /Users//Documents/Arduino/libraries

If the libraries directory doesn’t exist in your Arduino folder yet, just need to create it.

The built-in libraries won’t show up in Spotlight because they are contained inside of the Arduino application bundle.

Also, you’ll need to (re-)start the IDE after you place libraries into that folder.

Thanks James for answering all my questions. I created the folder, put the downloaded library inside and it showed up in the IDE.
