Where are the other files for Arduino?!

Hi everyone, I've downloaded the Arduino software (v17) quite a few times now and it only comes with the application and the usb drivers. I can't see any preferences folders or any other subfolders. Is this right? Whilst it works connecting the hardware with the computer, I can't interface Arduino with Max/Msp.

I'm running Mac OSX 10.4.11 and Max/MSP 5

Any suggestions?
