I would like to experiment with artificial muscles, without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars/euros.

Are there cheap artificial muscles ?

I want to make a make a massage mat/mattress/vest/collar. I'm thinking about 20 massage points controlled by an Arduino.
Vibrating motors is not what I want, they don't massage. But very small vibrating motors (for mobile phones) are not expensive, so I might try what 20 of them would do.
Shiatsu motors do indeed massage, but they are too big: http://www.massagemechanism.com/product.asp
Using an air pump and a mat with many compartments is a problem because of the many tubes that are needed. If flat and flexible valves would exist, I could place the valves inside the mat. But I haven't seen such valves.

Any ideas are welcome !
