I am trying to buy some batteries for a line following robot i am planning to make and i can't seem to find trustworthy retailers (I don't want it to blow up in my face). i live in Georgia, Europe. I also have a small question, I am wondering why some retailers and batteries don't list discharge current? they usually only list voltage, mAh and Wh.
The 18650 battery is the most faked item available online. First, understand that capacity is a function of cell volume, weight and chemistry. There are two chemistries, LiFePO4, the safest but lower energy density, which is a 3.2v nominal cell and the Li-ion, which is a 3.6v (sometimes 3.7v). See (A Complete Guide to 18650 Battery Voltage) for more details. By using a proper programmable charger like the Skyrc line (I use the MC3000) you can do a capacity test. Here are some I bought recently that proved to be excellent Battery If you buy 10 at a time the cost is only about $5 each.
I recommend this Buy Batteries and Chargers at NKON site. I am also in Europe and the delivery is very fast. The prices are good and there is quite detailed information about each battery.
Micha Toll gets them from mail-order. He has written how-to books on electric bicycles and batteries.
