Remember this is a consumer environment, and the finder is designed to protect critical system files from being messed up by the average user and just not have him confused. Remember that on a Mac most users are admin by default, so can do some damage (not as bad as root).

Apple has a "Apple knows best" heavy hand that often creates restrictions/limitations by trying to force users to do things their way or at least removing some options that they consider "dangerous".

And that is what I'm talking about when I say "restrictions".
i.e. on a a typical linux machine even when using a GUI, you don't have the artificial restrictions or limitations that apple often creates.
