Which Arduino do I need? For motorized camera slider/dolly for time lapse

Hello all,
I need some advice on what I need for this project. I have never worked with Arduino stuff before. I am planning on having several engineering friends helping me with different aspects of this project. But I don't know where to start? Although my engineering friends know there stuff. They haven't worked with Arduino either.

I have decided to make a motorized camera slider/dolly for time lapse using the Arduino micro controller. Something like this

I don't now which one to get. I know I have to get the LCD Shield.

Question 1. Which Arduino should I be looking at?

Question 2. Do I need a separate shield to control the stepper motor? I was reading on some older posts, that you can't run power going to the stepper motor and Arduino. That they need to be separate. But it looks like they only used one shield in the video above.

Nothing special any will do. So start off with a Uno.
