which IR receiver

Hi,

I plan to build an IR beacon and receiver.
I struggle choosing the correct IR receiver.
Being located in Germany this shop has all I need: %category-title% günstig online kaufen bei Conrad (tech sheets are in english)

It’s clear that I need to check for voltage, wavelength and opening angle.

What I struggle on is the transmitting code. I would like to use RC6 (as I have a remote for testing which uses RC6).
The cheap OS-Opto receivers only list RC5. Does this really mean RC5 is not possible with these sensors?

Or is it possible to pulse at 38khz without encoding? I think these sensors would filter the signal, right?

What else do I need to look at? The price range is really huge.

Thanks a lot.

Most of these sensors just get the IR signal and filter everything out that isn't modulated on the 38kHz square wave usually a IR remote is based on. What you get are the pulses after the 38kHz demodulation. A library like the IRremote library is then used to decode the signals contained. The IRremote library knows about 6 different encoding schemes.

Thanks for the reply.
So stating in the spec sheet the supported encodings makes little sense.

Please specify the exact receiver you refer to. A receiver module might support just one encoding while p.e. the Vishay 4838 is a ordinary sensor that may be used for any encoding as long as the base frequency filter matches.

Hello. I'm also using an IR reciever with part-number VS1838B - but I only found data-sheet in chineese...
Does anyone know which library format this reciever works with? How can I operate it using simple IR LED 940nm and Arduino? I tried simple PWM but as I understand it needs to get a specific burst signal to identify the IR. Do you have a simple code that can generate these codings modulated over the 38KHz PWM?

Also, I have a remote controller and I want to check which codes fits each button. What is the easiest way to do that?
Some debug program that can help me for that?

Thanks in advance!

IRremote does support this sensor: GitHub - Arduino-IRremote/Arduino-IRremote: Infrared remote library for Arduino: send and receive infrared signals with multiple protocols

IRremote does support that too.

Take a look at the example programs of IRremote. If the remote controller uses a support format, it's quite easy but you may use even controllers not directly supported but it's more work.
