Who can identify this component ?

He everyone,

I have a short question, which is that I am wondering what this component is I found today:

(little too big for the image tags)

What I do know is that it is some sort of sensitive light dependent resistor.

Thanks in advance!

LDR?

Why do you have it? Where did it come from?
Does it perform magic tricks.
That sort of information would help to understand it better.

It could be a photodiode!

I do not exactly know where it came from. It was extracted out of some sort of medical device.

What I do know is that it is senstive to light. WhenI use a multimeter to check its resistance it varies between 700 kOhm (blocking light with finger) and inf (out of range of multimeter, 100 megaOhm+).

Next to that, a very similar module with a LED on it was supplied with it. This LED gives out infrared light.

It sounds like an Infra red photo diode or photo transistor.

Possible uses to measure pulse rate, some one I knew has used a similar set up.

Check if It allows current to only flow one way.
