Who could I make an IR remote for a lost IR remote?

Hi All,

My "old" LG air-condition wall control panel seems to have an IR received... but I do not have any remote (it is a rental property, therefore I do not even know it it has ever existed)...

I would like to build (for home automation), an IR remote with Arduino...

I have the followings questions:

  1. how do I check if what seems to be an IR receiver it actually is...

  2. if there is an IR Receiver, how do I build an IR remote without having one to "Copy from" (in terms of IR codes )

a. Search the model number online. Disassembly.

b. A websearch of 'lg ir codes' may turn up something. Any neighbors have a functioning remote control you could borrow? Ebay.
