just wondering who rides. Its -11 degrees is Ohio USA and the snow is just not going away. This is my first week with the arduino and I'm glad I got something to do right now because I'm having withdraws! lol. So speak up and let me know what ya got. I ride a 03 Honda CBR 600 F4i. "Ride Red!"
Last year, I got a cheap Chinese-built 50cc scooter. Some people want 110 MPH speed, some people want 110 dB noise, some people want 110 MPG efficiency. I stopped riding in the late fall when I couldn't tell the difference between gloves or no gloves. Learning the ins and outs of a carburetor was a bonus. I'll pick up again when there's more green than white.
I do, my current scoot is a 2005 Suzuki DRZ400SM.
Western New York isn't exactly hospitable to riding. Then again the terrain is pretty boring as well.
I'm ready for this winter business to be over.
haha yeah 50cc bikes are so fun. you can put about anybody on one and get a good laugh. They just put a smile on your face ya know. Well I dont ride the streets I just practice stunt riding at a local baseball stadium.Ya stay warm with all the work your doing and the lack of fast speeds. the temp really wont hold me back its the 8 inches of snow we got in the past 2 days here. and its not gonna warm up for another week. And I could have gone to orlando for stuntwars this week.Hesitation is a B!^CH lol. oh well. So who else rides. have ya done anything cool to your bike? or mabe added Arduino lighting control to your bike.. I thought about making a tail like with built in turnsignal function with my arduino. ya know half of it goes from red to flashing yellow to indicate a turn. any one done that ? or could right a quick code?
Oh, I definitely ride- currently have a DL650ABS and a DRZ400S. I've been up into Alaska (above the Arctic Circle) and have ridden from Seattle to South America.. and of course have been cross-US.
I also teach motorcycle safety courses in Oregon.
wow Tedder thats how you do it. youve put more miles in one trip than I have put on a streetbike. When I got my CBR it was at 2,712. in the last 16 months Ive got it up to 6794. lil over 4 thousand miles. but again I dont ride the streets much so thats all layed down in a parking lot not going much over 20mph. I seen a cool video of a guy tearing up one of them DL650's. looks like alot of fun. lots of rubber laying torque. I haven't read anything about the ABS. How is that? I know it will save you if you do something wrong. but what if your trying to get wild will it try to correct you and end getting sketchy mabe take you down?
Timmy- on my current DL, I put about 19k on it in ~8 months. Of course, not so much in the winter, but that's pretty normal.
All the middleweight bikes are using the same ABS system- Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, BMW, you name it. It's a Bosch system that is fairly well-proven.
If you are on bumpy dirt, the back will will fire off ABS a little too quickly- i.e., it is sensing skid so you don't get much stopping power. But on pavement or smooth dirt/gravel, everything is fine.
It isn't traction control- it's only really designed to help you stop in a straight line while the bike is upright. So it's important to have the right skills. And of course it won't help if you lowside the bike, but will hopefully prevent the highside.
I mostly hang out on advrider for bike related chatter I'm developing an arduino-based product for the bike, but can't really talk about it.
1982 Honda CB650SC Nighthawk
Just sold a Harley Sportster that was half 1971 and half 1977.
I've currently got a 1981 gs250 with various mods and technique to get about 100mpg out of it. It is a PITA to get it running in the cold though (probably need to clean the CVs and put some silicone lube on them).
Very fun transportation, takes a lot more finesse than the 1200 I used to have.
Suzuki Bandit 1200
Ex military Armstrong MT500.
Big green 500cc kick start single.
Lots of fun and built like a tank.
Gordon
hey Jimmy did that old harley have an old S&S engine? ? shift down to go up and on the right side? rear brake on left? that is my favorite set-up on a cruiser type bike.
I do! It's a Kawasaki ER-5, my first real bike after an Aprilia 50 cc...
Has anyone one of these DIY motorbike alarms?
Are they any good?
I used to ride a Yamaha, but that's a long time ago.
I ride a '99 Kawasaki Vulcan VN1500E Classic.
Even though the temperature is now around freezing. (Just got to bundle up a bit more.) As long as the roads aren't snowy or icy I'm out there
'99 Honda Shadow. Fantastic bike, good for touring with another person on the back. I have 2 (bought the second for 2000 off a guy when it should have been 5000, even though my girlfriend got annoyed : )
