And I sometimes see the odd thread in other languages too; I think I saw some French ones. But I'm obviously not getting all the threads in all the languages, if that was the case there would be page after page of them, just every now and then I seems to get the odd random one.
So I'm wondering
I suspect that New covers all sections of the forum. Have you specifically excluded sections of the forumin your profile? There is a topic about hiding topics: Can I permanently hide some topics?
I hardly ever use the New so can't advise further.
I would imagine so too, and that's why I said it seems to be random, just the odd one every so often. If I saw all new threads from all boards, that would make (more) sense.

Had a quick look and I see it's a matter of schlepping through them all to de-select:
