Why LED gets power only after ESP32 has booted?

Hi, newbie question.

I have a 5V battery pack connected to a LED with series resistor. When I turn on battery, LED turns on, no surprises.

Then I connected VIN pin of a ESP32 dev module to the same battery. Now when I turn on battery, it takes ~500ms for the ESP32 to boot as usual, but also the LED now only turns on when ESP32 has booted up. I'm wondering why is that and is there something dangerous in this circuit  It's a 5W LED so takes more current than ESP32 could probably handle.
