Wide-angle distance sensor

Hi, I'm not able to find any wide-angle distance measurer for Arduino. I've been looking for both IR sensors and ultrasonic sensor, but can't find anyone with a wider range-coverage. I tried the traditional HC-SR04 ultrasonic, but found out that the coverage is too narrow.

Do anyone have any good wide-angle distance sensors to recommend? Thanks.

Most people use several distance sensors pointing in different directions. That way you get both distance and direction information.
