wide.hk 1602 OLED display high power consumption

Hello everyone

I've got one of these nice and compact displays. Rotary Encoder LED Ring Breakout Board ( Blue + Red - Two Color )

I've got it hooked up and working nicely, but the current consumption seems really high at 70mA on low brightness and 120mA on high brightness.

Does anyone know whether this is expected or if something is off.

This guy on youtube seems to get it down to 7mA: Arduino Wireless Pump Controller 05 - More power consumption tests - YouTube

Any help is appreciated.

This seems kind of high to me...

Does it heat up a lot when you power it to full brightness ? If not, I would not worry too much about it.

It get warm to the touch, but nothing I would worry about.

The issue is, I'm driving it from a battery and and would like to get more life from it.

Does you device need to stay at full brightness continously ?

What you could do is reduce the brightness when the device is not used for a periode of time.
