That sounds like an overly optimistic packaging. The box from Arduino can handle a letter or two but not the average weights carried around by postal workers.
I have not seen issues with the Nano 33 IoT antenna in the forum and I have a few myself. You are the first. The Arduino team may have seen users that contacted them directly without asking in the forum first. My guess would be the envelope was crushed in transit. Good luck with your replacement.
