WiFi channels issues

Hello, On my LAN I have 2 laptops. One is on the 5 GHz and the other is on 2.4ghz and pretty much I can not successfully transfer files through the file explorer on the (network) tab. I can't even see the other computer on the network. When I checked the setting of each computer I see that they are both on different Wifi frequencies. I have the basic ATT provided Arris NVg599 modem and router.
Would this be the reason why i can't see the other computer on the network or could it be something else?
Thanks

How is this related to the Arduino?

I was wondering the same; I read it three time to assure I wasn't overlooking something.

I plan to eventually implement Esp8266 but before I jumped that hurdle I wanted to be clear on the subject and google and youtube couldn't provide an answer because my question is more specific.
If you don't want to answer then that is no problem. Sorry for the confusion.

I am by no means considered an expert on TCIP; however, I do know the frequency is a relationship between speed versus distance. If your problem is connectivity, it is more than likely due to settings on your laptops.

As for the implementing the ESP8266, I wouldn't anticipate any problems.
