Wifi point app data?

I want to make an arduino have phones connect to it and then tell the phone how close it is to the arduino access point.

This will be a web of arduinos all doing the same thing to create a indoor live tracking feature on an app for android.

PS. Too ambitious? Should I use Raspberry Pi? Or something else?

Thanks!

If your intending to do this by measuring signal strength, i.e. the weaker the signal the further away you are, its going to perform quite badly indoors, not very accurate at all, especially indoors with people moving about.

Did you find any (working) examples for such a live tracking application, its a common request on here ?

No I haven’t, I shall do some research!

I just cam up with the idea. I was thinking bluetooth but wifi seemed better. It would need to have like up to 50 phones connected across like 10 or 5.
