I don't know about "a" WiFi shield but the Arduino WiFi Shield is electrically possible but you don't have the connectors ready to do so as you have with an UNO (just stack the shield on top of it). But you have all the pins you need on the Mini too, so yes, it's possible.

Not much bigger (if any at all) and possibly less expensive. Most WiFi shield are pretty darned expensive and thjis solution will also enable you to use the Ethernet library as is and other Libraries that are based the Ethernet Library.
