Wifi Shield Questions

First question:
The product documentation for the WiFi Shield says it uses a HDG104 wireless chip with a AT32UC3A1256 controller and that they require firmware update.
However, my shield has an HDG204 & AT32UC3A1512 respectively.
Do these require a firmware upgrade as well?

Second question:
I'm can't seem to get any client connections via my WiFi Shield R3
I'm using the example program WiFiChatServer.
The WiFi connects to my network and I can ping it.
However, if I try to connect via telnet, I get a connection failed error.
Any Suggestions?

SERIAL MONITOR OUTPUT:

Attempting to connect to SSID: PrevalentNet
SSID: PrevalentNet
IP Address: 10.100.101.106
signal strength (RSSI):-60 dBm

The wifi shield I have has the AT32UC3A1512 and HDG104, and it did well after the firmware upgrade. Maybe someone else knows how the HDG204 does after the upgrade.

edit: I just sent an email to sales@hd-wireless.se asking about the firmware compatibility of the HDG204 and the HDG104. I will let you know if they answer me, and if they do, what they say. They should know. They produce both chips.

That was easy! Here is the response from Carl Elgh of H&D Wireless.

Hi Tim, thank you for email. Yes the HDG104 and HDG204 use exactly the same Wi-Fi software.

You are cleared to upgrade!

Thanks Tim. Updating the firmware did the trick. Everything appears to be working correctly now.

Good to hear that worked. Now others with the HDG204 on their shields can feel better about the upgrade.

I now have user access to the H&D website so I can access their forum and the new drivers and firmware.

edit: It is more like a help desk than a forum from what I can tell.

a good tutorial (maybe with screenshots) to upgrade the firmware?
Thanks
