wifi shield

Hallo!
I am new in the comunity so i present my self shortly.
I am an art student and recently start working with Arduino..
I am experimenting with the wifi shield for the first time since I find it an intersting tool..
I have some troubles finding it so I would like to ask for advices

I want to send data from one part of the city to the other!

The Wifly shield but from the online shop i know sold out and i can't find it un any other websites(I am Germany).

Wifly shield: This domain has been registered for a customer by nicsell

Than I found this other with antenna:

and this one:

which one could be best to have a long distance connectivity?

Grazie!

WiFi shields are used to connect an Arduino to a local wifi router. They are not intended to connect to wifi routers any significant distance away. Certainly not across town.

They are also not intended to create a wifi network.

What do you mean by long distance? The Async labs wifi shield I've used has a maximum range of 100 feet or so. Less if brick walls are separating transmitter and receiver. Others will be of a similar order I suspect.

Also, Async labs are out of business, so you may have trouble getting one of theirs, although I have seen suppliers still advertising them e.g. cutedigi.

i mean , the Wifi shield is some meters away from the computer with internet connection.
I want to put Arduino and the shield in streets, and get the connections from shops etc around (asking permission).
Between all these wifishields I would need probably to take the one with more distance possibilities, since I am not sure exactly how far the arduino with the shield will be from the internet source.
Thanx

he Wifi shield is some meters away from the computer with internet connection.

It would need to be meters away from your wifi router (or "hot spot", like they have in starbucks coffee shops).

There are some cheaper options out there, like the RN-XV WiFly module:

I think this is easier to use since you connect to it through serial.
You will need an XBee shield though to connect it to Arduino (about $10).

You may find that this is a problem. Connecting the Arduino to a random wireless router is not something that can easily be done.
