I finally managed to update the WiFiNina via IDE.

I'm very glad to hear it! Thanks for taking the time to post an update.

Where can I find the instructions to upgrade the WiFiNINA firmware ? I am using Arduino Ide 1.8.15 on Ubuntu with Nano RP2040 Connect modules. Running the firmware sketch says:

Firmware version installed: 1.4.5
Latest firmware version available: 1.4.7

Check result: NOT PASSED

- The firmware version on the module does not match the
version required by the library, you may experience
issues or failures.

Found it in the WiFiNINA doc, so will give it a try 😉

Hi @Dave_Tbar.

I'm trying to update the Firmware on a MKR Vidor 4000.

The Check Firmware Version program is reporting "Communication with WiFi module failed!"

I'm only seeing NINA firmware (1.0.0) and NINA firmware (1.1.0) options in dropdown list of the Update Firmware option in the latest Arduino SDE (1.8.15).

The latest version of the Firmware appears to be 1.4.8 ([Releases · arduino/nina-fw · GitHub](https://github.com/arduino/nina-fw/releases) ) and it has 3 BIN files in the Git Repo. Will copying those files into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino\tools\WiFi101\tool\firmwares\NINA\1.1.0 folder do the trick?

@Dave_Tbar When you say rename the files? There is only one existing file (NINA\_W102.bin) in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino\tools\WiFi101\tool\firmwares\NINA\1.1.0 folder. So what to do there with the 3 BIN files?

Surely the SDE should pickup on all the folders in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino\tools\WiFi101\tool\firmwares\NINA folder?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

@itspaul as I just explained in your other topic, the situation is different for the MKR Vidor 4000 than it is for the boards discussed in this thread:

> [@MKR Vidor BLE compilation error](https://forum.arduino.cc/t/mkr-vidor-ble-compilation-error/891967/4):
>
> This is an accurate statement when it comes to the NINA firmware in general. As you saw from the other thread, for the other Arduino boards that use a u-blox NINA-W102 (e.g., MKR WiFi 1010, Nano 33 IoT, Nano RP2040 Connect), the NINA firmware development has become very active recently as new requirements emerge from Arduino IoT Cloud, resulting in a release frequency that is far higher than the release frequency of the Arduino IDE. Since there is no mechanism to allow newer firmware versions t…

You are free to do as you wish with your MKR Vidor 4000, but just be aware that the versions of the NINA firmware discussed here were never intended to be used on that board.

@itspaul It's been a long time since I did this and it's all a faded memory now, but you probably only need one of those files, the one simply labeled .bin perhaps. You could try different ones, but as mentioned above by @pert you should be careful to keep your original file as these firmware files may not be suitable for the Vidor 4000. I have long since given up on the MKR WiFi 1010 as the Nina firmware has a bug in it that won't allow it to connect to my Google Wifi Mesh network. I know this to be true because I now use WeMos D1 Mini devices instead and they use the ESP8266 chip and have no problem connecting to my network, nor do any other devices I have. So it's definitely a NinaWiFi bug.

I posted an update in the other thread after I got curious and tried the latest 1.4.8 version of the firmware on my Vidor. I found that the WiFiNINA library's `WiFi.status()` returns `WL_NO_MODULE` when I use that firmware version.

Is there any news about future updates of this firmware? We have more than 10 pcs of MKR1010 at our company and we were using them with MRK ETH boards corded for a certain task flawlessly.

Later we tried to utilize the built in wifi module of the MKR1010 for a new project but the whole experience was really awful. We have full coverage of WiFi at out facility with ~20 brand new Ubiquiti UniFi APs but the module won't connect to the network, or if in a rare case would connect it would not keep the connection alive for long. I think we have a similar problem like [Dave\_Tbar](https://forum.arduino.cc/u/Dave_Tbar) has, this fw has big problems handling the case when the same SSID is broadcasted from multiple APs.

I tried multiple different fw versions, unfortunately none of them worked as intented. Any idea for the problem?

I recommend you to watch [the repository of the firmware source code](https://github.com/arduino/nina-fw) to get updates about the ongoing development work.

I see that you have also posted a bug report there:

>
> We tried multiple MKR1010 boards with multiple different WifiNiNA FW revisions b…ut could not establish a stable connection via wifi (or at the wast majority of the cases even connect). We have a grid of ~20 pcs of well working brand new Ubiquiti UniFi APs broadcasting the same SSID at our facility. Based on other users experience at the Arduino forum and on our experiance we assume something is wrong with how the FW or the module itself handles this specific situation when the device can detect multiple APs broadcasting the same SSID.

To make the information convenient to anyone who might be interested in the subject, I'll post a link to the thread in question:

> A couple of months ago I bought an Arduino MKR WIFI 1010 board with the ENV shield together as a bundle for $US50. I then programmed the device to be an environmental monitor for my greenhouse, simple enough. I then made a nice Blynk app to view the sensor values through the cloud from anywhere using my smart phone. It all worked just great when testing it, the sensor values were visible through the cloud using the Blynk app on my phone, and a min/max reset button on my phone could reset the min…

As I mentioned earlier, I know this is a bug in the WiFiNINA firmware because I've now programmed numerous WeMos devices, which use the ESP8266 chip, and I have put them all on my mesh network, and they can all connect without any problems. This bug has been around for a long time and there has been no effort to fix it, so I would suggest abandoning the MKR1010 and using a different MCU.

Unfortunately the implemetation is way beyond my capability, but someone from the Arduino dev guys should implement the possiblity to connect to AP by BSSID.

Based of the thread below the ESP32 on board of MKR1010 itself is capable to do it:

Hello,
Where may I get the documentation of Wifi Nina firmware? I mean the AT commands supported by it.
