If I run it as normal, it will do nothing, when I launch the debug variant it will crash java with out any report on the cmd prompt.
I have cleared all temps, updated java, tried different versions, copied java from Arduino 1.0.6, ran as admin, ran as xpSP3, uninstalled and installed to different location, copied latest update of java to Arduino java's folder; to no avail.
Arduino 1.06 will start. 1.6.13, 1.8.0,1.8.1 all do not start and java crashes in the same way.
Need help getting 1.8.x to start, I do not want to use 1.0.6.
Any tips to get it working?
Thank you for the reply, forgot to specify, its Win7 x64. I did find that thread in the search and attempted all of it with no luck.
I did make an xp virt machine and use the same install binarys and it works fine, I just am at a loss on why it java crashes
I saw the xp sp3 and figured that was your OS as you didnt mention anything else about how you were running things.
There should be no need to run the IDE on a VM unless you want to run some older software ??
IDE 1.8.1 runs just fine under win 7 x64 so I suspect a windows error in some way rather than just the IDE.
win 7 x64 pro here on main box.
Copies of the error message can always provide clues to the guys around here so maybe include them if you can.
Going to also point you at another thread that relates to Java and some possible steps to take.
Head up if you follow it all it will take some time but is often worth it even for users that dont play with ARduinos.

You can probably ignore the benchmarking aspect if you want but if like me you also want to know how much difference some things can make sometimes its worth it. Been speed tweaking computers for a lot of years LOL
