I 'm trying to install Arduino IDE in Windows 10.
Arduino Mini Pro -FTDI232.
I 've tried lots of version but in all of them the USB port does not show up!
(in win 8 no problem)
From what I read win 10 is very picky in drivers installation.
I even tried with Disabling driver signature enforcement, but did not help.
I read here (page 29):
The certified driver supplied by FTDI will work with VID 0403 ....blahblah and PID 6001.
My FTDI has this combination of VID and PID but still nothing, USB port does not show up.
Any help would be appreciated.

So, bad cable, bad port, bad module... no USB device enumeration.
No module named 'serial':
Everything works fine in this laptop in my other disk drive's installation of Win 8.
Problem is with Win 10.
So, cable port and module are fine.
Unlikely a Windows 10 OS issue, per se. A failed update, forced-driver install, etc... maybe.
Try using a USB mouse or USB storage stick in the same USB port you are having issues and ensure that that specific port is enumerating standard devices. Use the Windows utility to inspect enumeration.
If everything works on Win 10 except FTDI, it "may" be the FTDI hardware is not genuine. It has been a long time since I have heard of counterfeit adapter chips, but a possibility.
It 's such a pain.
I 'll just go back to my Win 8 installation where everything works as expected.

Sadly, it is somewhat to be expected with the numerous security attacks on Windows as an OS. While Linux and MacOS are less prone to attacks, they are still being actively attacked by bad actors.
IMO:
The evolution of Windows XP through various stages to the current Windows 11 has had some shaky times, but I have numerous PC (desktops and tablets) running on Win 11 and have not seen a road-block to using Win-11OS64-bit for software development. I will concede the feature updates twice a year are a major annoyance and for many users, Microsoft will impede migration from 22H1 to 22H2. But security updates seem to be incorporated without too much pain.
Hint: if you think your Windows 10/11 installation is causing your USB plug & play issues, you may wish to consider booting to a Linux distribution on DVD or USB-flash and determining how Linux deals with the commodity hardware you are trying to attach. This is a rather painless way of doing a rather thorough determination of hardware vs OS.
