I have two ESP32 DEVKIT V1 - DOIT boards and programmed them rather extensively. All of a sudden one ESP32 board (faulty board) stopped working properly. The program on the board seems to be working from time to time. However, When I try to connect the faulty board to my laptop, Windows 11 on my laptop does not detect the faulty board any longer. As a result, the Android IDE is not detecting the faulty ESP32 DEVKIT V1 – DOIT board and it cannot be programmed. The other board (functioning board) is still working perfectly on the same laptop. I switched cables and USB ports on my laptop the end result was the same. The faulty board is not detected by Windows 11 whereas the functioning board i still detected and works. I also installed a new CP210x USB to UART Bridge VCP Drivers from Silicon Labs on my laptop. The end result is the same. It seems to me the USB chip on the faulty board has stopped working. Can I assume the faulty bord is dead and gone and has to replaced? Could I have caused the USB chip on the faulty board to stop working? If so, how? Thank you.
Quite likely your faulty board is ... faulty.
That sounds that the problem might be beyond the USB chip.
What happened, only you can tell. What did you have connected to it? How was it powered?
Thank you for your promp response. I did at one stage connect the faulty esp32 to a 5V supply on pin VIN and the ground of the 5V supply to the adjacent GND pin. I also connected the two GND pins on the esp32. That is I connected the GND pin next to the VIN pin and the GND pin next to the 3V3 pin. Is that a mistake?
Sounds ok.
I don't know the purpose of connecting GND pins between each other but it shouldn't harm either.
What exactly do you mean by

Looks like the same problem.
That Esp that works only occasionally sounds like some other problem. Not necessarily on USB-chip.
Sorry yes you may have misunderstood me. What I mean is that the existing program that was stored in the faulty esp32 before it has broken down seems to run every now and then. However the faulty esp32 now that the problem occured does not want to connect to the Windows 11 laptop. I therefore cannot update the existing program.
And I mean that MCU which run only every now and then have definitely a problem.
Hi kmin, yes but do you agree I have to replace the esp32?
Considering that the other identic board works, I would say yes.
