Ok, after a lot of lost time trying to fix Arduino compile troubles on my windows 8 64, I found out why...
IDE 1.5.2 has problems, 1.0.4 also has problems, BUT they work just fine in windows XP!
What works with windows 8 64 ?... how about 1.0.3, all the compile problems go away!, now I can send programs to my uno on my windows 8 machine, before I had to use my XP machine, now I can go back to trying to learn C++
