Sorrry !!!! This is the pinout of the LCD.
And the pins are labeled like this on the PCB:
LCD PINS: 15 16 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14
and this is the I2c this worked perfectly on a regular h44780, which I soldered right aways.

I don't know if there are modules with LED pins at the beginning.
The main difference is that the pins for the LCD LED are at the beginning and not at the end like those on the module. the rest of the pins are the same.

When plugging in a commercial module, move 2 pins and connect the LED with discrete wires.
I did that. Didn't worked.
Did you solder the connections between the I2C backpack and the LCD?
What library are you using for the display?
The hd44780 library is the best for this type of I2C enabled display. The library automatically detects the I2C address and the I2C backpack to LCD pin mapping.
I used a breadboard for testing before soldering.
I tested directly didnt worked, then I connected moving 2 pins and connect the LED with discrete wires.
please post pictures where we can see each connection including the quality of the soldering of the headers to the LCD.
