Wire connectors for i/o pins

Does anyone know where I can buy the wire terminal connectors to insert into the i/o pins? Or, what is the diameter of the pin needed to go into the female i/o pins on the board? I have a Duemilanove.

Thanks,
Coby.

There are several "shields" like that.

Otherwise those regular square pins used on like every electronic device fits. I've slaughtered lots of computer board for those pins.

22 gauge wire works for prototyping. If you need more permanent you can solder them in to a proto-shield or get the screw terminal strips Honk mentioned.

For prototyping even quite thin solid core wire works ok if you put a little kink in it at the end. Just bending it a little one way and then back, is usually enough to stop it slipping out.

It depends a lot on what kind of sockets you use. Some more expensive kinds have 2 (or even 4) flat surfaces inside the hole to contact a large area on the sides of the pins. But most of the ones hobbyists use have only a thin "fork" inside that only contacts a small portion of the pins. There's enough room inside the hole for a resistor lead or other small wire to slip off to the side, instead of getting pinched by the fork. That gives you intermittent connections. For those you should use something at least close to the .062" square pins they were designed for.
