Wireles ISA100 protocol

hello,
i am assigned to develop wireless data logger with low budget. thus, i would like to see whether arduino is feasible or not.

i got 5 industrial wireless yokogawa transmitters that working in isa100 protocol. the question are:

  1. can we interface isa100 with xbee?
  2. can we use ethernet shield to work in isa100 protocol?
  3. any other idea?

thank you in advance. your responses are highly appreciated

How about providing some ISA100 protocol reference info ? (it's not something we usually deal with here)

thanks for the respon, herewith i attach a brief explanation about isa100 vs zigbee

doc00014.doc (156 KB)

I don't think that document is going to help anyone here advise you on how to connect the zigbee modules. Your question as to whether or not an arduino can be used with the zigbees requires knowing the ISA100 output type of the Yokagawas, specifically
(assuming it is serial or you wouldn't be suggesting this, what baud rate ? What is the data format ? Is it packet data or if not then where is the Yokagawa manual documentation that defines what it will send and when or how ? Does it send on command or does it transmit continuously and if so in what format ? How could anyone here answer that question ? If you can connect the Yokagawa to a PC serial port and capture the output in a terminal output capture file and post that , then we would have something to base our answers on. Without that, how can you expect anyone here to be familiar with Yokagawa ISA100 output data format? Is that
even vaguely arduino related ? (granted there may be some members here who know that, they are few and far between). Give us more information on the data format and if possible post the capture file.

  1. can we interface isa100 with xbee?
  2. can we use ethernet shield to work in isa100 protocol?

The above are two very silly questions nether have anything to do with your problem. Your question should be can you interface isa100 or what ever elas with an arduino (or other processor). If you can then accepting data from a and sending it to b is of course somethinf the arduino can do.

But its not a case of ISA100 and some other protocol, it is ISA100 and the arduino.

I don't think the arduino can do ISA100 because it probably requires a lot more memory.

@Holmes, i dont think the question is sily as isa100 is a protocol like zigbee. my data logger software (vb based) and xbee explorer has sucessfuly working with lm35 temp sensor that connected to xb tx. now, i got additional sensor that working in isa100 protocol. so, i would not build another arduino based data logger that connect to isa100 based transmitter. i would prefer to make an interface script between isa100 and zigbee.

anyway, zigbee,isa100, and wirelessHart is developed based on IEEE 802.15.4 (low rate WPAN).
just now i got some article that showing me some good news to make it happen

thanks for kind response

I don't think you can run VB on an arduino. I hope you figure out how to do it but if you do you should post it in the Gallery .

I share @Holmes's view.

@muterdewe I think there is a lot of stuff included in the words I have highlighted that you are not explaining clearly. A diagram showing how everything is connected would be a start. I know what an LM35 is, but what is an "xbee explorer" and what is an "xb tx". Is there an Arduino (which one) included in your existing system? If so what does it do?
