Wireless Range and bps

Hi all,

Currently I am working with Virtual Wire library.
I came to know that the range of wireless increases when bps decreases.

Can any please tell me why this happens ?

As you put more data into the modulation your Signal to Noise margin needs to be higher to pull the data back out with out errors.
