Wireless Switch for the Arduino

Hi,

Firstly can i just say that I am very new to the arduino platform..

I would like the arduino to detect a number of switches (maximum 16) wirelessly either using RF, Bluetooth or some other transmission method that does not require a “point to point” view (ie Infrared) the maximum transmission distance is 30 ft.

Could someone please suggest the best way of implementing this, or even point me to a “module” that I can purchase that handles this requirement.

Thanking you in advance for all of your help.

I recently posted about the pt2262/pt2272 chips. They are used in most remote controlled powerswitches which you can buy at any hardware store for about 10-20$ (1 remote three switches). (cheap enough?)

So what you could do is to use it in reverse, and put the 2262 at the place you want to read a switch, and then it sends the data to the 2272 that is connected to the arduino.

I am thinking of doing a circuit with both a 2262 and 2272 on the same board, that can both recieve and send info to and from the Arduino...

Hi Kristian,

Thanks for your reply...

Did you ever manage to source a supplier for the 2262/2272 chips?... Does this mean that the 2272 could recieve data from upto 16 switches.

I would be very interested in your circuit for the 2262/2272 chip.

Thanks again for your help

Ive talked to the manufacturer and have a supplier but I havent ordered yet, so I dont know prices for bare chips yet...

Well, I havent really understood the tri-state pins yet, and if the Arduino supports this... According to the datasheet you can have thousands of addresses? but that is probably using all pins and all three states... But yes, 16 switches would be possible with four databits (they have chips with 1-6 databits so even 64 switches would be possible)

I would suggest you buy one of those remote controlled switch packages and and try connecting the pins to the Arduino and a sketch.

BEWARE OF THE LETHAL HIGH VOLTAGES THOUGH!!! (I guess it cant be said enough times

If your interested youll probably have to wait a looong time  Those things usually take time for me, have to many projects....

Kristian,

Thanks again for your reply...

I came across this company that seems to provide a little of what i am after, it might be useful for you or anyone else to check them out..

I will keep you posted of any feedback.
