Write large amount of data to I2C eeprom memory.

Dear Enthusiasts.
I have developed a simple program to control a box stacking robot. It calculates the optimum pattern for a standard wooden pallet and generates the coordinates/orientation for each box. I now need to load the large number of coordinates into a eepROM. I intend using the 'ON Semiconductor' CAT24C512ZI-T3 EEPROM Memory, 512kb. (MSOP8 package)
I have successfully connected the I2C memory chip to my Arduino UNO via a 'bread board' having carefully soldered the chip to a header PCB, and learned how to write one byte at a time to the chip, however writing all the (hundreds) of coordinates (each of which can be expressed within one Byte) will take forever!
I would be very grateful if someone could suggest a way to sequentialy write large amounts of data from a spread sheet (basically a long list of numbers not exeeding 255)into the eepROM memory.

You could save the spreadsheet data to a text file on a SD card. Use the SD library and read the data from the card for your program instead of saving to EEPROM.

You could write directly to the eeprom with
extreme-burner-avr-1-3-beta

It can copy chip memory to and from files including the EEPROM and program portion of memory and you can alter the values directly

The datasheet shows that it has a 128 byte page write buffer. That would go a lot faster than byte write mode, that's for sure.

I haven't used it, but I found Arduino Playground - LibraryForI2CEEPROM which says it can write pages of 'any' size.

I have to use an eepROM so the eeprom writer or page write sketch look like my best options.
Regarding the page write sketch how do edit my data into it? I have studed the sketch but can't work out how to modify it for my purpose. Maybe I should just go for the eepROM burner option, but it seems to be a bit of a cop-out!

Surely not? The Universe will be gone by then. Can you put figures on:

  • How long you want it to take (in milliseconds)
  • How long you expect it to take (in milliseconds)
