ws2812b help power supply:

hi i am using 200 leds ws2812b, and need to use a battery to power
the LEDs.

i need a battery that at least 12A. no battery gives 5v directly.
so I need a DC_DC convert voltage regulator 12A and 5v output.

that battery, I used to last me about 4 hours?
that DC_DC convert voltage regulator, 12A output 5v?

Hi,

I think you are saying you want to use a DC-DC convertor. This is not the same thing as a regulator.

A 12V to 5V regulator would need 12A input to provide 12A output. Power dissipation in the regulator would be a very serious problem and most of the battery's energy would be wasted as heat in the regulator.

A 12V to 5V DC-DC convertor would only need a little over 5A input to provide 12A output. There should be far less heat generated and most of the battery's energy would be used by the leds.

Using a convertor, for 4 hours use you would need a battery of 4 hours times 5 amps, so 20 A/hr. A little more because DC-DC convertors are not 100% efficient.

Here is an example:

However, you would be using the maximum current this convertor can supply. You should try to find one with more output current, at least 20% more, for safety.

There is nothing stopping you using two converters, it is easy enough to split the power rail to strips like this. Don't forget you also need a stonking great capacitor to smooth out the PWM demands. I would use at 470uF at the very least on each end of the strip.

Hello, I found this dc-dc. believed to work well?
you say put multiple dc-dc like this?
battery LITHION that I can use?

Mini 3A DC-DC Converter Adjustable Step down Power Supply Module replace LM2596s
Mini-3A-DC-DC-Converter-Adjustable-Step-down

Application:

DIY mobile power, monitor power supply, power buggies, camera power supply, car power, communications equipment supply, various right size and weight for demanding applications (such as aviation models, etc.).
Input voltage: 4.5-28V
Output Voltage: 0.8-20V (adjustable)
Output current: rated current 3A(MAX).
Switching Frequency: 1MHz
Output Ripple:less than 30mV
Efficiency:96%(max)
Operating temperature: Industrial grade (-40 C to +85 C)
Module Properties: Non-isolated step-down module (buck)
Size:22174mm

Yes that sort of thing looks fine. I would put a capacitor on the input side of it as well, especially if that power supply is a battery.
